Mind over muscle

No this is not a blog about better willpower, to get your A*# moving. In fact, the more I train, the more I see health and fitness, training and practice, are all about intentionality: moving your body by how your body lets you, let’s go and says ‘let’s!’.

Lets you: safety in a new range

Mobility training doesn't just stretch muscles; it strengthens them in their end-ranges. You can only strengthen where you can go! This stability is like a safety net for your joint, protecting it from strains and sprains when you move suddenly, as much as allowing you a body-brain upgrade to move more like that in the future.

Let’s go: space to go

Movement is a process of capacity built in layers: from the ground up to creating range and to joint work-space. Not being stiff or tense or sore or maybe just deciding ‘I’ll run now’, mobility lets your brain decide your body just can now that’s freedom!

Says ‘let’s!’: curious to see what if

I love this quote by Nietsche: “Live your life where it might erupt: risk is the price of self creation”. Strength doesn’t just improve my bones and muscle mass...It protects my YESES:

YES to a ski trip in Japan

YES to adventures with my kid

YES to adventures with my kid's kids

YES to a surfing, climbing, running the coast trail

Daily movement is my basic, my SAY YES to adventure insurance policy.

Your brain is built to rewire itself through what you practise most. For so long I thought willpower was like fuel in the tank, that we only had so much a day and once it's done, it's done. But what if it's not used up but filled up? I’m filling mine up with learning where my brain and body can feel safe, have space and stay curious.
