Things built to last take time to build (and that’s a good thing!)
Ever wondered what’s actually happening inside your muscles when you workout? You’re creating tiny microscopic tears in the muscle, which sounds horrid, but it is actually the key to igniting growth. Your body senses this damage and goes into full on repair mode - sending healing cells that not only patch things up but also overcompensating, rebuilds the fibres thicker and stronger than before and that’s the secret- adapting for the next challenge!
I’ve come to think of my recovering knee (note, not ‘injured’ knee, that’s so at the start) as a really long overcompensating rebuild. It takes time. And that’s a problem in this hectic instant gratification world we’ve come to expect. But things built to last take time to build!
Consider when you’ve ordered a supplement: you’re excited for what it’s going to do for you, you can’t wait for it to arrive to get going. Movement is the same: ignited growth, stronger and thicker than before. Yet the assumption is that it’s slow or at least slower than the supplement (aka magic pill). We expect immediate results!
And they’re there. The accumulation thru consistency is the real results. Einstein called it the 8th wonder - where your investment is reinvested, thus generating their own results over time. That compound interest is called good food routinely and consistent movement, both tiny daily ticks that compound over time to increase your healthspan within your lifespan.
So build your body as though you want it to be around for a long time. The micro choices (& tear repairs!) you’re making each day add up to something really worthwhile showing up for again and again.
