Real Life Rarely Distributes Weight Evenly
Real life rarely asks us to move under perfect conditions. Maybe strength is how well you can carry life when the load shifts unexpectedly. Luckily it turns out humans are remarkably good at adapting. So let’s practice that.
Real life hands us uneven weight and shifting environments: a child on one hip, groceries cutting into our fingers, a washing load of wet towels, armfuls of sticks. Just awkward loads with no handles.
The body doesn’t stop and ask for symmetry.
It adapts.
That’s what makes natural movement so valuable. Not because carrying logs is somehow magical, but because it reconnects us to responsiveness, balance, coordination and problem-solving in real time (no splinters thanks!).
Controlled movement has its place.
But so does movement that feels alive.
Stepping over uneven ground.
Adjusting mid-carry.
Switching grips.
Recovering balance.
Responding instead of rehearsing.
Humans are incredibly good at adapting when we let ourselves practice it again. Maybe strength isn’t just about how much force you can produce in ideal conditions. Maybe it’s how well you can carry life when the load shifts unexpectedly.
